Wonderful watercolor portrait in a gorgeous gilt frame of Englishman Martyn Stapylton in1852 age 22. The watercolor is stunning in golds and browns and the gilt frame compliments it perfectly. I did some research and found Martyn Stapylton was born in 1851 and at age 22 he was a student. A household census shows he lived with his father and 3 servants. Judging from his attire he was a gentleman of high means. The frame measures 11" x 9.5". The frame is quite ornate with the bottom right corner has a piece missing, but everything else in tact. The outer backing has peeled and Martyn Stapylton 1852 aged 22 is handwritten. There is a hanger at the top for easy hanging. A wonderful portrait!
